A Teacher's Potential to Help

As you probably know, teachers share a lot more than just knowledge and grades with their students. There’s a sort of hidden curriculum in a classroom, made up of life lessons that help students take steps closer to their potential. You have a lot of power, as a teacher, even if you don’t realize it.

You may have a student that seems pretty stressed out all the time. You may notice that a student is an unusually harsh self-critic, or may work diligently on a 20-minute assignment and still not be done with it after nearly an hour. You may also notice that a student is incredibly bright, and yet consistently turns work in late or not at all. These coul all be signs of a perfectionist student. Left to fester, these habits could turn into depression, anxiety, and abysmal self-esteem.

The Guardian’s Bradley Busch provides five tips to help your students get better at managing their perfectionism.
