I GET ASKED A LOT...
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE YOUR NAME?
Depends on who you ask. I pronounce it "zay-nub," and that's what most people that know me call me.Â
My mom and sister both say "zi-nab." My grandmother says "si-nob" because there's no "z" sound in the Yoruba alphabet. Others call me "zay-na" because they think the "b" at the end is silent and I don't bother correcting them.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I personally was born in Massachusetts, but my family is from southwestern Nigeria. We're a part of the Yoruba ethnic group.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WHEN YOU'RE OLDER?
I definitely see myself as someone in the field of healthcare as an adult. Where that place is, I am not quite sure yet. Surgery sounds interesting, as well as microbiology and epidemiology. I'm also leaning towards counseling or research psychology these days.
I also hope I would have a place to fit art into my life, and who knows? Maybe I'd have a miniature art studio to call my own in my free time.
WHY DO YOU CUT YOUR HAIR SHORT?
I like how it looks, it's easy to manage, and when it gets long enough I can say I have a mini-afro. It's a triple-win.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN?
In my free time, I enjoy inhaling words like air, throwing paint at a piece of paper, and planning for the impending zombie apocalypse.
WAIT, WHAT?
It's coming. There's no denying it.
YOUR OLD "ABOUT ME" PAGE SAID YOU TALK TO WALLS. WHY?
I used to be co-captain of my high school's speech and debate team, and "talking to walls" is a common way for speech competitors to practice their pieces. My last speech has actually been semi-converted into a class-induced capstone assignment slash personal pet project, if you're interested.
